With the gracious permission of the author, I repost the following message written by Dr. Albert Wang, a reputed doctor in California: "Why am I supporter of AA and an even stronger supporter of diversity on college campuses? Because there are so many Chinese American students in most college campuses, they can choose to stick o themselves without much interaction with others. This is a tremendous loss for them in life. It is not just for the enrichment of life, to be able to look at issues with a deeper understanding of this country, but also for their own life's successes. We often attribute the bamboo ceiling we face in our careers to being foreign born and language deficiencies. But even second or third generation Chinese American have a hard time advancing to the top of government and corporate leadership. There is of course the stereotype of us Chinese by the mainstream as worker bees and not leaders. But I believe our children's lack of greater understanding of others is a hindrance as well. " I believe Dr. Wang speaks for many of us who care deeply about the long term well-being of our children.
