    • our children face unjust treatments when applying for college.  It is simply unacceptable to anyone in this country.  It is not about AA, but it is our country’s founding principle that …under God, justice and liberty for all.  When Jewish students faced quotas in admission in ivy leagues in 19th and 20th century, their community fought hard to eliminate the quotas.  This resulted in a lot of prominent figures in Executive branch, legislature branch, and judicial branch.  This also resulted in a powerful AIPAC that lobbies for American Jews and Israel interests.   The presidential candidates from both party often attend its annual dinner fundraising event in NY.  We not only need to actively engage in the political process, we also need to have a collective power / body.  If we think that we just need to pursue wealth ignoring the civic engagements, we will not be able to enjoy our fair share in the public affairs.  For example, during WWII, German Americans and Italian Americans could escape from interment, while Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps with only two week notice.  Among those people who were forced to leave their property / wealth are Japanese Americans who live in this for more than 100 years.  They don’t even speak the Japanese.  Among them are very rich and wealthy Japanese Americans.  Among them are those women and children who have white husbands / fathers….
I think that we need to do following things besides pursuing wealth:

    • 1.       Educate ourselves and others the importance of civic engagements – register to vote and get out to vote.
      2.       Need to participate in policy making process.  If there is a pie (public policy) on the table, we will not get our fair share when we are not at the table.
      3.       Need to have a PAC like Jewish’s AIPAC.  Chinese Proverb “One pair of chopsticks is easy to be broken, but if we have 10 pairs of chopsticks, they are not easy to be broken down”, gives us wisdom that we need to have collective power in order to succeed in our endeavors for equal opportunities and justice.  If every family contribute $10 to the PAC, 1 million family’s contributions will be $10 million.  For example, one wealthy Chinese American contributes $10 million to a campaign or Harvard, he /she could get some personal access to the campaign or have his/her name on the building in Harvard.  If PAC uses the $10 million to lobby the candidates / politicians / Harvard, PAC will be able to present much more powerful message / s because it has millions people behind the money.
      4.       Need to participate in the local politics.  The councilman / school board member / mayor could be our congressman / senator, even president in the future.  Give Pressure to local politicians to form an Advisory Board like Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board as a liaison between the city government and the Asian American Communities.
      5.       Need unity among Asian American communities.  We have a lot of differences but we have a lot things in common.

    • 1. For this Beginners' Class of 【1分钟英会话(1Minute English】 : We strongly wish to encourage you all, please don't be afraid or feel shy to open your mouth to speak in English.
      2. Learn to speak with very simple & short sentences first. Just keep on trying and trying. The more you practice, the better you can be, and one thing for sure is, you definitely can do it,if you are willing to give yourself a chance to try .
      3. Remember one example which I shared it with you all for so many times : learn from a baby. When a baby learn to crawl, sooner or later they can crawl faster and faster, then try to hold something to stand up, and not too long, they can holding someone's hands learn to walk, step by step.
      4. The more they keep on trying, then they can walk faster and faster, finally they also learn how to run like a horse. Subsequently, they forgotten about everything of the past and felt so confident to walk around, to everywhere they would like to go.
      5. Other example is, just remember how you learn your own mother language - Mandarin ? Cycling, swimming, driving, calculating, playing with a musical instrument, computer QQ, Handphone WeChat and so on....
      6. Likewise, learning " Basic English Conversation " is also applied to all these simple rules or methods.
      7. Just determined by yourself that you are willing to put into action in learning, there is no reason you cannot learn it, unless you are not that really serious about your ownself.
      8. You all have been taken that very first 1 minute in deciding to learn " Basic English Conversation ", therefore, you all should continue to learn 1 minute by 1 minute, practicing for 1 hundred minutes, 1 thousand minutes ,1 million minutes and so on.....
      9. Never, never, never give up or just keeping 1 minute passion in it.(从不、从不、从不要放弃 或只是 保存仅仅1分钟的热诚而已)。
