今天上午我们AsianGOP又有几名义工外出助选。我们Palm Beach Chapter主席邓松带领Michelle, Chunhong等5人帮助 BocaRaton Mayor Susan Haynie。 我和2位华人小姑娘去帮助Boca Raton City Council Scott Singer 竞选下一届 Council。首先跟着Scott拜访了几户居民。一位女士提出了不少对城市建设的建议，Scott向她介绍了自己的观点，并记下女士的联系方式，保证下周会约她会面。City council 一周要为城市的事务工作40小时（兼职），工资$600-$700。每一届还会遇到其他候选人的挑战，没有一点奉献精神和执着的信念，这“官”也真是做不了的。 Scott 是犹太裔律师，我想犹太人的政治地位除了大家常提到的金钱的作用外，恐怕辛勤的奉献也是不能缺的。 Scott有一个大的竞选活动先走了，于是我加入了年轻人一起。从去年大选起，我已经和不少FAU, PBS等学校的学生一起助选过了，体会颇深。这些孩子礼貌，识大体，有思想，语言表达能力强，不怕辛苦，不计奖赏，对社区，国家，历史有着很多的了解。每次看到这些孩子都让我看到社区，国家的希望，也不禁反思我们华人对下一代的教育。 我们一起的2位华人小姑娘一定看到了 Community Walking是一件多么辛苦和乏味的事情。今天她们能够出来值得称赞。也希望她们能体会更多。孩子是国家的未来，只有孩子懂得了关心和奉献，社区国家才会建设得更好。

Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, writing for the New York Times, believes the situation we now find ourselves in, with Donald Trump holding the levers of power, is incomparably worse than anything the country faced with Bush or Cheney: We’re only three weeks into the Trump administration, but it’s already clear that any hopes that Mr. Trump and those around him would be even slightly ennobled by the responsibilities of office were foolish. Every day brings further evidence that this is a man who completely conflates the national interest with his personal self-interest, and who has surrounded himself with people who see it the same way. And each day also brings further evidence of his lack of respect for democratic values. The one positive thing that can be said about the Bush Administration is that it did not provoke the attacks of 9/11. Despite clear and well-documented early warning signs (which were ignored by Bush), the attacks, however carefully planned, were a shock to everyone, Bush included. And when the Courts began to rein in Bush and Cheney's abuses of power, while they were surely displeased—even irate--they never stooped so low as to undermine the basic institution of the Judiciary. As a result, the country slowly returned to a sense of normality because our institutions held up against the onslaughts.
When Obama went golfing etc, FOX news always provided a breakdown of what it cost the taxpayers. Are they still doing that? What about Melanie and Barron living separate lives? Are they tracking that for the Taxpayers?
