Carson 说obamacare is the worst thing happened since slavery. Obama administration is Nazi Germany. Obama is a psychopath. He believes earth is only 6000 years old. He believes gay people is choice, because straight people go to jail, and come out gay. 胡言乱语,与 川普有一拼。What's wrong with GOP?
This group definitely does NOT represent Asian American voters as a whole. This group represents Chinese American activists. If you talk to a regular Chinese American, they have much more positive view of their lives in America.
I actually sympathize with Chinese Republican in California in their local fights. However, the national GOP is driven by the south, which has turned to extreme right, particularly after the election of Obama, which turned off the moderate people on the two coasts. Most Asians live on the two coasts.
@Ting Dai in 2014 congressional vote exit poll, Asian Americans voted about 50-50 between the two parties . Of course this is just one election, and let's wait for next year's result
I usually don't like to evoke the threat of another "Chinese Exclusion Act." I think it's hyperbole. For the same token, I don't think it's appropriate to compare the mistreatment of blacks today to slavery. Time has changed.
But just play the hypothetical for the moment, do you know which political force today, if it becomes powerful enough, it is in their political logic to push for another "Chinese Exclusion Act"?! It is the white nationalist movement whose poster boy is Trump. His supporters constitute about 20 to 30% GOP base.
The GOP started out as Lincoln's party, the party of anti-slavery Northeast Radicals. It was Nixon's Southern Strategy which fundamentally realign the two parties.
The arch of history is long, and not easy to bend. I have two rules of thumb. Any time China stands close to Russia in opposition to the West, it's time to worry about China. Any time a U.S. political party relies heavily on the south alone, it's time to be skeptical about that party.
@Tony Xu It shows that you don't understand how the two parties system worked through US history. They are giant coalition. The same political force can end up in different parties at the different time. The force for the "Chinese Exclusion Act" was in the Democratic Party in the 19th century. During that century, Democratic Party was the party of south, GOP was the party of northeast and upper Midwest.
The same poor, or blue collar whites, who are not well educated, could end up in union or Trump's rally. Don't focus on the label, focus on the underlying sentiments.
@Henry Yang @Tony Xu you guys spent lots of time on this group. I'd recommend that you spend some of those time to read serious books about US history. That will help you, and everyone on this group.
At this conjecture of history, the democrat party is unlikely to defend those whites from white nationalist angle, but a more class based labor union angle. The Republican Party is 旗帜鲜明地 going down a racial / culture path.
