By "tactics", we meant the tactics to win an argument in the political or corporate world. I don't know there is any special tactics for "提高华人地位” other than for every one of us to be the best we can be in whichever line of work we're doing. I do want to comment on why I support 华人参政 and the tactics to win an argument.
I support 华人参政 NOT because of a sense of group victimhood or group grievances, real or perceived. I do NOT resent either blacks or whites. I'm happy with America in general. I just want to be an American who happens to be of Chinese heritage.
In Lindy Li, I've found a candidate who doesn't have an ax to grind, who goes into politics because she enjoys the line of work and has the talent for it. She will compete in a district that has very few Chinese or Asians. She basically will run as an all American candidate who happens to be of Chinese heritage. Her youth reminds me of my own daughter. I saw Lindy in person for the first time this past weekend. I'm impressed. You should see how smoothly she worked the room. She dressed fashionably and conservatively. She used the right culture reference (she correctly used "bamboo ceiling" to refer to the "ceiling" Asians may face, not the "glass ceiling" which is usually associated with the "ceiling" females may face). She quoted Lyndon Johnson on the fly.
I'm sure her politics won't match mine perfectly. But who in the field will?! Her politics need to reflect her district, PA 7th. For those of us outside of her district, all we can do is to give this all American girl an chance because she IS our daughter. I've been a regular voter, but I've become a political donor for the first time for Lindy.
I also would like to say something about the tactics to win an argument, in the hope to raise the quality of discussion on this group.
A few weeks ago, I asked @Henry Yang to figure out why I answered some of his questions, but not others. He never got back to me. The answer is really simple: if it is a substantive question that I perceive as could be asked by the silent majority, I will answer and in fact I have to answer in order to advance my arguments. If I perceive it as a technicality or other distractions that only the active opponents would care, I ignore it, even toy it with them.
Let's start with a basic fact: you're not going to change the mind of your active opponents. If anything, you probably harden their positions by arguing with them. Then why bother arguing? The real "target" is the audience, the silent majority, the persuadable. If everyone understands this, we will solve the chronic complains of "personal attacks".
Periodically, there are accusations of personal attacks flying in this group, followed by the appeal to "authority"(群主)。This is a group of politically minded Chinese American. If we cannot operate a 微信群 with self regulation, what does it say about our political maturity?!
I propose we do it the American way: Freedom of Speech. Let's not waste our time on those petty issues of hurt feelings and egos, on who said what hurt words and trying to draw a line (political correctness, anyone?) Trust the intelligence of the silent majority. Each audience may have different standard on what constitutes as personal attacks, what constitutes as biting criticism. If you cross the line for that one audience, you lose that audience. We are here to articulate our case to the silent majority, right? Take the hit on your person like a man, win a point for your cause!
If you are here for your ego, sorry, this is the wrong group for you. There are plenty of healthy egos here. Yours will be bruised during debates sooner or later. And if you're on the wrong side, yours will be bruised by me pretty badly, if not already. For that, I apologize in advance and wholesale.
大家很清楚地看到了以上@谈云识天气 的坦白:“I support 华人参政 NOT because of a sense of group victimhood or group grievances, real or perceived. I do NOT resent either blacks or whites. I'm happy with America in general. I just want to be an American who happens to be of Chinese heritage. ” 从这段话可以看出此人以前伪装成为担心Top10 政策会使华裔受到更多伤害的说法不过是一个虚假的托词,完全是用于挑起斗争,攻击理念不同者, 或者是其他不可告人的目的。画皮一片片掉下来了。这样我就非常理解为什么亚裔社团的维权运动为什么会让他失望了。理念不同可以,光明正大地亮出真面目,旁观者也容易辨认。
