instruction on gender identity, transgender, bisexuality, and sexual orientation will be added to grades 7, 8, and 9 FLE (optout is available). It was already in grade 10. These particular lessons will not be added until the 2016/17 school year. However, teachers have at times inserted their own comments pressing their views.
I have both my kids (7th and 9th grade) opted in. When I told them they could also opt out, their reaction was irreverent and scornful, in their typical endearing manner...hehe...
I've found that some of the sentiments expressed here are so obtuse and resentful that they are almost disconnected with the American culture and context I live every day. Just leave a link here for people to see how the Americans I'm familiar with deal with issues big and small: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/dear_prudence/2015/09/dear_prudence_my_mother_s_support_for_donald_trump_is_jeopardizing_her_job.html
@谈云识天气 although I'm not sure about the full context of your comment, I am inclined to agree with you in principle. Political activism is not necessarily the way to fight for the recognition and welfare of immigrant Chinese. Blending and integration is the ultimate and long term solution. The Jews vine influence that way and it took a while too. The resentment expressed at the China town street corner in San Francisco is alarming. History should remind us of Chinese immigrants' being persecuted in south east Asian countries not too distant ago. Be a Chinese American, not American Chinese, participate, contribute, involve and share. There are much more to the society than SAT , Harvard and $$$
